Into the Wild
This 12-day expedition through Peru is designed to experience one of the world's most spectacular mountain ranges on foot. Beginning with an overnight journey from Lima to Huaraz, the expedition spends seven days trekking deep into the Cordillera Huayhuash, crossing high alpine passes, traversing remote valleys, camping beneath glaciated peaks, and experiencing some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Andes. With time to acclimatize before entering the range and thoughtfully planned logistics throughout, this journey emphasizes the rewards of slow travel, self-powered exploration, and meaningful immersion in one of Peru's most iconic trekking regions. Built for hikers seeking a challenging and unforgettable high-altitude adventure, the Huayhuash Trek offers a rare opportunity to experience the Andes at their wildest and most remote.
Day 1: Arrive in Lima, Peru. After arriving in the capital, you will board an overnight bus to Huaraz, the mountain town that serves as our gateway to the Cordillera Huayhuash.
Day 2: Arrive in Huaraz and transfer to our hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to settle in, rest after the overnight journey, and begin adjusting to the elevation.
Day 3: Today is dedicated to rest and acclimatization in Huaraz. We will complete our expedition briefing, review equipment, organize personal gear, and prepare for the trek ahead.
Day 4: We depart Huaraz and travel by private transportation to the trailhead. From here, we begin trekking into the Cordillera Huayhuash and establish our first camp beneath the surrounding peaks.
Day 5: We continue deeper into the Huayhuash range, trekking through broad alpine valleys and beneath the region’s glacier-covered mountains. We arrive at camp in the afternoon and settle in for another night in the Andes.
Day 6: Today’s route carries us across high-altitude terrain, with expansive views of glacial lakes, steep rock faces, and snow-covered summits. After crossing the day’s mountain pass, we descend into the valley and continue to camp.
Day 7: We continue through one of the most remote sections of the circuit. The trail moves between alpine grasslands, mountain communities, turquoise lakes, and dramatic viewpoints across the heart of the Huayhuash.
Day 8: Another full trekking day takes us over rugged mountain terrain and through changing high-altitude landscapes. We continue around the range before reaching our next wilderness campsite.
Day 9: We cross another high pass and descend toward camp, surrounded by the glaciated peaks and remote valleys that make the Cordillera Huayhuash one of the world’s most celebrated trekking regions.
Day 10: We complete the final full trekking stage of the circuit. After one last day among the lakes, passes, and towering summits of the Huayhuash, we arrive at our final campsite and gather for our last evening in the mountains.
Day 11: We finish the trek and meet our private transportation at the trailhead. We then return to Huaraz, check into our hotel, and gather for a well-earned celebration after completing the circuit.
Day 12: Transfer to the bus station for the return journey from Huaraz to Lima, marking the conclusion of the expedition.
