Kilimanjaro RoutesRoute Options
As everyone arrives, we settle in, connect as a team, and walk through the route options that will shape the climb ahead. The journey starts here.
-
The Marangu Route is the only path with hut accommodations, following a direct ascent and descent on the same trail. Completed in 5–6 days, it is the most straightforward route but offers less time for acclimatization.
-
The Lemosho Route approaches from the remote western side of the mountain, offering quiet trails and expansive views early in the climb. Over 7–8 days, it provides excellent acclimatization and one of the highest summit success rates on Kilimanjaro.
-
The Machame Route is a scenic and well-paced climb that traverses multiple ecosystems while following a “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization profile. Over 6–7 days, it offers one of the best balances of challenge, success rate, and dramatic landscapes.
-
The Northern Circuit is the longest and most comprehensive route, circling the mountain and exposing you to rarely visited terrain. Over 8–9 days, it provides the best acclimatization and highest overall success rates on Kilimanjaro.
-
The Rongai Route approaches from the north near the Kenyan border, offering a drier and quieter climb with a more gradual ascent profile. Over 6–7 days, it is a strong option for those seeking a less crowded route with solid acclimatization.
-
The Umbwe Route is the steepest and most direct path up Kilimanjaro, gaining elevation quickly through a dramatic and demanding ascent. Completed in 5–6 days, it is best suited for experienced climbers comfortable with limited acclimatization time.
-
The Shira Route approaches from the western side of the mountain, beginning at higher elevation and quickly joining the Lemosho trail. Over 6–7 days, it offers beautiful open terrain but a more abrupt start, making acclimatization more challenging than Lemosho.
